Ft. Meyers, FL
In the Fall of 2015, I was honored to be asked by the Smithsonian to design a Bottle Tree for their new National Museum of African American History and Culture,
which opened September 24th, 2016, in Washington DC.
Considering the African origin of the Bottle Trees, how the old traditions and interesting stories came to the USA, and how they changed over time, it is understandable
to include that part of the history.
Long story, short...I designed, created, and submitted three designs for the museum to choose from...two made in steel and one made in copper.
But…to my dismay, I recently
learned they chose another artist’s design. Regardless...it was an honor.
